The Uruguay international who has been on duty for the national side during the Confederations Cup has been subject to interest from big clubs Atletico and Dortmund according to agent Pablo Bentancourt.
His agent said this to South American sources, "[Gaston] is currently followed by Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid. At the moment, it is very difficult for him to come back to Italy."
Atletico are believed to be in the market for attacking reinforcements and initially wanted Wolfsburg midfielder Diego but have now turned their attention to the 22 year old because Diego is too expensive to purchase.
Ramirez joined Southampton for a club record transfer fee from Bologna but according to his agent, he will not return to Italy anytime soon.
